About the event

Common misconceptions around self harm can get in the way of effective care planning & treatment for teens who engage in self harm. Research shows that self harm in teens is on the rise, yet there are still pervasive myths & misunderstandings, even within healthcare settings, about the best ways to respond to self harm.

Early intervention when teens first start to self harm is key, & can minimise risks for long-term psychiatric disability.

In this learning session we will cover 3 important knowledge areas that pertain to self harm, plus how to use short & longer-term interventions to increase likelihood for positive outcomes.

We'll explore how dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) can help us create effective frameworks for care, regardless of clinical setting, utlising key assumptions & understandings about self harm behaviours.

This session will be helpful for any professional wanting to feel more confident about care planning for self harm presentations.
